From our humble beginnings in a house on Charlotte Street over 75 years ago, the Asheville JCC has become the central home for Asheville’s Jewish communal life, as well as a place that welcomes countless people from all faiths and backgrounds. We have now begun a new chapter in our long history by embarking upon a significant capital improvement campaign. Our goal is to create a JCC facility that will have a transformative impact on our ability to sustainably serve the community well into the future.
The Matching Challenge Grant
Due to an amazing once in a lifetime opportunity to receive a challenge grant that will match our successful fundraising efforts, we have already raised nearly $8 million to fund these improvements. We are almost done, but we need EVERYONE’s help to complete the campaign. Every pledge and donation that we receive to meet our $4.5 community goal will be matched – as long as we receive the pledge by December 31, 2017.
Exciting Plans to Improve Our Programs
We have already made so much progress toward our goal to expand and improve the JCC.
Our new aquatics facility on Clyde Street includes beautiful locker rooms and showers, a party room, a zero entry tot pool, and a retractable enclosure that will allow us to offer aquatics programming all year long. The most important phase of our project will be the expansion of our location on Charlotte Street to include brand new early childhood classrooms and offices, as well as a teacher lounge, conference room and a newly designed outdoor learning environment that will serve as an extension of each classroom. We will also renovate our existing spaces at Charlotte Street to include dedicated classrooms for our after school and summer camp programs and updated space for adult and community activities.
