SUMMARY:Asheville Jewish Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Asheville JCC is pleased to be a sponsor of this year’s Asheville Jewish Film Festival. \n\n\n\nAbout the Oct 10 & 11 Film: Once Upon My Mother is the story of Esther and her family. In 1963\, Esther gave birth to Roland\, the youngest sibling of a large Moroccan Jewish family that had emigrated to Paris. Roland was born with a clubfoot that prevented him from standing. Against everyone’s advice\, she promised her son that he would be able to walk just like everyone else and have a wonderful life. From that moment on\, Esther devoted herself fully to ensuring this promise came true. Spanning decades of hardships and miracles\, this film is the story of an incredible destiny and the greatest love of all: a mother’s love for her child. Directed by Ken Scott. Click here to watch the trailer. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout The Asheville Jewish Film Festival: The Asheville Jewish Film Festival returns in 2026 with four award-winning Asheville premieres plus special guests\, post-film discussions\, and an opening night reception. \n\n\n\nThese films celebrate and grapple with cultural\, historical\, religious\, and political themes within the wide range of contemporary international Jewish experiences in the United States\, Israel\, France\, and Hungary. While the contexts rest in Jewish experiences\, the themes are universal and reflect a shared humanity.  \n\n\n\nThe 2026 Asheville Jewish Film Festival will inform\, inspire\, and entertain diverse audiences during challenging times. The Festival offers a place where we can\, once again\, share new perspectives\, insights\, and heartfelt experiences through the magical lens of film.

SUMMARY:Asheville Jewish Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Asheville JCC is pleased to be a sponsor of this year’s Asheville Jewish Film Festival. \n\n\n\nAbout the Oct. 17 & 18 film: Sabbath Queen\, a feature documentary filmed over 21 years\, follows Rabbi Amichai Lau-Lavie’s epic journey as the dynastic heir of 38 generations of Orthodox rabbis including the Chief Rabbis of Israel. He is torn between rejecting and embracing his destiny and becomes a drag-queen rebel\, a queer bio-dad and the founder of Lab/Shul—an everybody-friendly\, God-optional\, artist-driven\, pop-up experimental congregation. Sabbath Queen joins Amichai on a lifelong quest to creatively and radically reinvent religion and ritual\, challenge patriarchy and supremacy\, champion interfaith love\, and stand up for peace\, ceasefire\, and an end to the Occupation in Israel/Palestine. The film interrogates what Jewish survival means in a difficult rapidly changing 21st century. Directed by Sandi DuBowski. SUMMARY:Asheville Jewish Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Asheville JCC is pleased to be a sponsor of this year’s Asheville Jewish Film Festival. \n\n\n\nAbout the Nov. 7 & 8 film: The Ring is about three generations of an Israeli family and the family history that reconnects them. Aaron Noble is a religious man with a strong tie to his mother\, a Holocaust survivor. He usually drives her to school lectures where she tells the students how she saved the lives of her baby boy and herself with the help of a thin gold ring. When the mother’s health deteriorates\, Aaron travels to his mother’s old hometown\, Budapest\, to search for the mythological ring that saved her life\, and his\, in the past. He turns to his estranged daughter for help and they go on this journey together. The Ring is based on the Holocaust survival story of the family of the film’s writer\, director\, and lead actor Adir Miller. Directed by Adir Miller\, Doron Paz\, and Yoav Paz.
