DESCRIPTION:DIY Passover\n\n\nIn 4 sessions\, learn songs\, recipes\, Haggadah tips and how to personalize the seder for your family. Adult participants are welcome to bring children as necessary.  Each session is from 7 – 8:30 pm at the Asheville JCC\, 236 Charlotte Street\, Asheville 28801. Every participant will receive one free PJ Library Haggadah. \n\nThis program is free of charge.\n\nSeating is limited. \n\n\nTuesday\, March 5: Abby Gilad\, song leader and Jewish educator\, will teach some fun songs for all ages\, and help us to understand the nuances of the translations. \nTuesday\, March 12: Tikva Wolf will share easy recipes and menu planning\, and then bring us into the kitchen for some hands-on experience. \nTuesday\, March 19: Rabbi Wolff Alterman\, chaplain at Jewish Family Services will teach us about many Passover traditions including why we dip parsley in  salt water. \nTuesday\, March 26: Geri Garfinkel-Gershon\, Jewish Lifelong Engagement Director at the Asheville JCC will teach us to personalize the seder\, tailoring each section to your family and friends to create a unique experience. \n  \n

A reminder will be sent on the day of the event. \nRegister Here:\nWednesday\, March 13\, 2024 07:30 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada)  \n  \nCOLD CREMATORIUM: THE “LOST” HOLOCAUST MASTERPIECE\nwith Alex Bruner \nA lost classic of Holocaust literature translated for the first time—from journalist\, poet and survivor József Debreczeni \nWhen veteran journalist\, poet\, and novelist József Debreczeni arrived in Auschwitz\, he was “lucky” to be sent to a life of slave labor rather than directly to the gas chambers. He survived\, and after the war wrote Cold Crematorium\, which one reviewer called “the harshest\, most merciless indictment of Nazism ever written.” \nThe work was first published in Hungarian in 1950 but was never translated into a world language due to McCarthyism\, Cold War hostilities\, and antisemitism. Until now! In January 2024 it will be available in English\, and within a year\, in 15 languages around the world. \nAlex Bruner\, the author’s nephew and a child of Holocaust survivors\, will discuss the historical and family context for his uncle’s deportation to Auschwitz and describe the author’s hellish journey through multiple slave labor camps. Bruner will share pictures\, documents\, as well as an audio recording of the first chapter of the book.
