This year, the Asheville JCC announces the 2017 Race Series! You are invited to register for two great races for one great price! The Falafal 5K on April 30 at 10 am and The JCC Hanukkah 8K on December 10 at 9:15 am are the Asheville JCC’s annual foot races; both races are fun events that benefit JCC programs and Shalom Children’s Center. You can now register for both races at the same time to receive a discount for both!
The Falafel 5K
The Falafel 5K is the only 5K race in Asheville that ends with a Falafel sandwich. A local favorite, the Falafel 5K was voted one of WNC’s BEST road races in the 2015 Mountain Xpress “Best of WNC” poll.
This year, The Falafel 5K is in honor of Israeli Independence Day and is hosted in conjunction with Cafe Israel, a Congregation Beth Israel event held on the same day,
April 30, at nearby Congregation Beth Israel, 229 Murdock Avenue. Following the Falafel 5K, don’t miss Beth Israel’s celebration of Israeli culture where you can experience savory Israeli dishes; wine tasting & Hi-Wire beer; live music & folk dancing; inflatables & children’s activities; silent & live auctions, and more. Redeem your FREE Falafel coupon at Cafe Israel beginning at 11 am.
All registered participants for the 5K will receive a race shirt (unless the t-shirt free option is chosen).

The Hanukkah 8K
The Hanukkah 8K is a community-wide celebration of the 8 day Jewish holiday of Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights. Race day registration is 7-9 A.M. on Sunday morning, December 10, at the Jewish Community Center. The race is a great way to stay healthy and active during the cooler months. The inaugural JCC Hanukkah 8K took place last year, and we’re looking forward to an even better year in 2017! Bring your hats, ear muffs, and your running shoes, and join us for this festive run in honor of the Jewish holiday that begins December 12, 2017!
In conjunction with the Hanukkah 8K, there will be a FREE kids’ race starting at 8:30 am where kids will be challenged to run 8 laps around the JCC parking lot. Those kids that raise $25 or more in pledges will receive a t-shirt. For more information about the “Latke Loop”, see the Latke Loop page.
